Rules

This competition is about style and shape. We want to see 5 shapes of nail extensions. Square and regular stiletto cannot be used. For example the wedge, bridge, lipstick, edge, Russian almond, blade, arrow or something new that you create. Remember it is the structure of the nail that dictates type of nail you are going to produce.

THIS IS NOT FRENCH TWIST. Each nail must have a different structure quality.

“C” Curves will be judged in accordance with the shape that is created. Meaning they will most probably NOT be created in the traditional “C” fashion. Smile lines MAY be done in support of the style created for that nail shape.

  • Competitors will have 3 hours (unless otherwise noted) to complete ONE HAND (unless otherwise noted) of FiveStyle competition-style sculptured nail enhancements using flat paper or metal forms. Tips and adhesive are NOT allowed.
  • Each design must distinct from each other.  Styles must be unusual style and design.  You must think out of the box.
  • Competitors must use liquid-and-powder acrylic products or light cured products only. You may not white gel paint or white gel polish.
  • Only pink, clear and white enhancement products may be used. Enhancement products containing glitter and/or any other color are NOT allowed.  Cover pinks are allowed and may be used to elongate natural nail bed.
  • Embellishments may NOT be used.
  • The model’s natural nails may be prepared for product application before the competition, but product may NOT be applied until the competition starts.
  • No consideration will be given for any pre-existing damage to a model’s natural nails, cuticles, or hands.
  • Electric files and buffing tools, may be used.
  • Cleansing products (soaps, etc.) and moisturizing products oils, creams, lotions are allowed.
  • The nail enhancements must be French-style (pink/clear and white), finished to a high shine and completely free of polish. Nail plate may be extended. Gel sealant may be used to finish to a high shine. Or you can buff to a high shine.
  • PLEASE SEE JUDGES CRITERIA FOR CLARITY OF JUDGING!
  • FiveStyle Sculptured Nails will be judged in the following categories: smile lines, “C”curves, cuticle area, shape, product control, FiveStyle, surface structure, lateral structure, length, complexity, finish work, and overall impression.

Judges Criteria

Judge 1

Smile Lines – 10 Points

  • the smile lines are crisp (definition between pink and white)
  • the smile lines are symmetrical and consistent with the design

 “C” curves – 10 Points

  • the curvature of the nail enhancement is consistent with each shape
  • the depth of curvature is a range between 40% and 50% depending on style of nail
  • the percent of curvature enhances the model’s nails and the style of nail
  • since nail enhancements are unique in shape, consideration will be given for the apparent lack of traditional “C” curvature at the distal edge

Cuticle Area – 5 Points

  • the product is flush to the natural nails and close to the cuticles
  • the model’s skin at the cuticle area is in excellent condition (free from abrasions)

Shape – 10 Points

  • the individual shape is symmetrical within itself
  • the shape is unique and executed well

Judge 2

Product Control – 5 Points

  • the product is completely free of air bubbles and pits
  • the color of the product is consistent
  • the skin is free from all products

FiveStyle – 10 Points

  • the FiveStyle are innovative and new
  • the FiveStyles are executed well

Surface Structure – 10 Points

  • the top surfaces of the nail enhancements are smooth and perfectly contoured
  • the bottom surfaces of the nail enhancements are smooth and perfectly contoured

Lateral Structure – 10 Points

  • the nail enhancements align perfectly with the sides of the natural nails
  • the arches of the nail enhancements are  structurally balanced

Judge 3

Length – 5 Points

  • the length, measured from cuticle to the end of the extension, is consistent with the shape of that nail. Some nails may be longer than others to show the shape in the best light
  • the length is ideal to the shape and style of each nail

Complexity – 10 Points

  • the FiveStyle is demanding of skill
  • the FiveStyle is complex and challenging

Finish Work – 5 Points

  • the entire surface of the nail enhancement is smooth and very shiny (absent of scratches)
  • the edges of the nails are smooth and finished
  • the nails are thoroughly clean (absent of dust)

Overall Impression – 10 Points

  • the nails complement the model’s hands
  • the thinness should be consistent for competition-style nail enhancements (the thinness of a business card, approximately .01 to .03 inches, is ideal if design permits)
  • the entry has a certain WOW FACTOR!

9 = Almost Flawless 4 = Below Average 4 = Very Good
8 = Very Good 3 = Poor 3 = Average
7 = Good 2 = Very Poor 2 = Below Average
6 = Above Average 1 = Unacceptable 1 = Very Poor
